How Does AI Affect Current and Future Writers?

The emergence of AI has had its implications on society. It is important to understand the effects that AI and technology have on writers future and current because of its efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility.

Title: "AI and You: Emerging Technology and What It Means for Writers"

 https://www.novlr.org/the-reading-room/ai-and-you-emerging-technology-and-what-it-means-for-writers/

Author: Arthur Franz IV

AI generative writing ...

This article by Arthur Franz analyzes the connection between AI generators like the popular ChatGPT and human writers. He does this by illustrating the similarity of the impact that the printing press had on writers in the 15th century. Franz took on the task of explaining to his audience that although technology, specifically AI generators have effects on modern-day writers, it can also be viewed as a tool that could improve the man made work.
Some key points that Franz emphasizes are the limitations of AI, the legal ethics, and of course its efficiency.
Although AI is efficient and can do works in a fraction of the time as humans, it has its limitations. In other words, Franz states that AI cannot replicate the human capacity for works like creative writing. AI does not have the power to use a human connection through the words in a passage.

Arthur Franz effectively talks about the implications AI has on literature, but then talks about its limitations to not scare the reader.

This article directly applies to our inquiry since it connects the technology and writing. It is a technology commentary that analyzes the emerging technology that AI has on writing.

Title: "How Is Modern Technology Affecting Human Development?"
Author: Walden University
""

This article written by Walden University analyzes how technology has affected how our brains function. For example, having technology easily accessible at our fingertips, we have become accustomed to answers whenever we want. The author chooses this project because of how it has probably affected the efficiency of papers being pushed out. With attention spans shrinking, it can be inferred that tasks may take longer.

This shift of reliance on technology definitely impacts literature. Going back to one of my research questions, "How does reading on an electronic differ from a physical page?" One of my responses was that reading online gets them sidetracked. This is a direct consequence from attention span shortages.

With the emergence of AI, those who are reliant on technology may become reliant on AI generators as well because it will give them the answers by the touch of a button. Although this article does not necessarily talk about AI, it can for sure be included in the wide category of "technology".

This directly correlates to our inquiry. Technology has definitely affected literature because we have become reliant on finding information fast, that we have forgotten about the beauty of going to a library and searching for the answer in books. That is almost unheard of nowadays. Before the assignment we had where we went the library, I don't know the last time I stepped foot in a library with the purpose of checking out a book for my own pleasure and on my own will.

Title: "How Is Technology Changing the World, and How Should the World Change Technology?"
Author: Josephine Wolff

10 technologies that will change the ...

This article takes another perspective on technology and writing by looking at the connection between technology and society. Wolff calls for scholars to analyze all facets of technology and its impacts. This way it can be used effectively as a tool.

The author takes on this project like the others because of its relevancy. Technology is at its peak in modern history right now, it is only right for scholars who use it to understand all of its implications.

Wolff states there are unpredictable implications of technology, pitfalls, and issues regarding privacy. For example, with AI, it is the consequences of it can be unknown because it is new. The author looks at the impacts of it nationwide as well. Different nations have different regulations regarding technology. This was relevant for the United States when TikTok was banned for a couple hours. It was a huge event in the media. Each nation has its own views regarding technology which affects the interconnectedness of individuals on this planet.

This article directly relates to our inquiry because technology affects individuals, which affects literature as well.

Unit 1 Draft

Source #1   Article: “A Pencil Shop, for Texting the Old-Fashioned Way”   Author: Molly Young     Photo: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/21/fashion/a-pencil-shop-for-texting-the-old-fashioned-way.html   This article looked at a unique store in Lower Manhattan that sold only pencils. It highlights the passion the owner, Caroline Weaver, has for something that most people would describe as dull. Pencils are overlooked, not used, and some may describe them as out of date. Although the author took on a challenge by choosing this store to write about. Young chose this and wrote to try and capture how something mundane as a pencil shop can be compelling. It is not jus t about how a store only sells pencils; it is about how there is something captivating about a unique passion. Especially since Young dug further to see the uniqueness of the shop, its meaning to the owner, and its effect on others.   The genre of this article is a display of journalism b...

Unit 2 Library

For my library experience, I went to Bird Library on campus to check out a book called "The History of Popes" by Ludwig von Pastor. This book stuck out to me because I just recently watched the movie Conclave  which was very interesting to me.  Regarding technology, it certainly affects my relationship with the library because I almost never go and check out a book there unless I am told to. If I need a book, my first step is to look online for a free version online, then if I cannot do that, I look somewhere else online for cheap purchase. I never go to a library to see if they have a physical book there.  Especially with a book like "The History of Popes", that is something I would just look up on my own instead of going to the library to read a book about the popes from 1755 to 1799. This book struck my interest because it is not something that I know a ton about. I am very into my faith and devoted to living according to my morals. Although I do not know much ab...

Graphic Novels

I chose the "Nat Turner" graphic novel by Kyle Baker because I am interested in history. I have read similar passages in one of my english classes last year and just wanted to expand on my knowledge on this. Since it is a graphic novel, I read the entire book because it was a very easy read.  The book started by showing how slaves were taken from their homeland and brought to the US on the ships. This graphic novel encapsulates the inhumane conditions the slaves had to endure. At one point, there was a baby thrown overboard on the ship which is very unfortunate. It then shows how brutal the slaves were treated on the plantations as well. There were some graphics like being whipped and the overseers would throw salt on the wounds. Throughout this imagery, the novel shows the slaves conspiring a rebellion. Through their facial expressions and their sneaky actions. It then goes into their rebellion. One particular scene that caught my attention was when the slaves contemplated k...
