Unit 3 Reflection

For this unit, I expanded on my topic for unit 2 regarding technology, AI, and its effects on writers plus society. I did this through a PowerPoint presentation to transform the textual argument and analysis into something more visually appealing. A PowerPoint presentation is something we are all familiar with which is why it was quite easy to decide on this medium because it is flexible. I added videos, pictures, transitions, and color to this presentation so it could be easier and more interesting for the audience to view.      Being a statistics major, I am quite familiar with presenting statistical analyses using PowerPoint, so I wanted to do something I know I could do well about a topic I am unfamiliar with; writing. Literature is not something I am an expert in but I do see on a daily basis through academic articles, online stories, books, and in social media. I though about using iMovie for this project, but I could not format it in a wa...

How Does AI Affect Current and Future Writers? The emergence of AI has had its implications on society. It is important to understand the effects that AI and technology have on writers future and current because of its efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility. Mandell urges those who are worried to take a deep breath and realize that AI is not capable of recreating what a human can do. Maybe in the future it will be able to do almost as well as a human screenwriter once it improves, but it will never be abl...

Graphic Novels

I chose the "Nat Turner" graphic novel by Kyle Baker because I am interested in history. I have read similar passages in one of my english classes last year and just wanted to expand on my knowledge on this. Since it is a graphic novel, I read the entire book because it was a very easy read.  The book started by showing how slaves were taken from their homeland and brought to the US on the ships. This graphic novel encapsulates the inhumane conditions the slaves had to endure. At one point, there was a baby thrown overboard on the ship which is very unfortunate. It then shows how brutal the slaves were treated on the plantations as well. There were some graphics like being whipped and the overseers would throw salt on the wounds. Throughout this imagery, the novel shows the slaves conspiring a rebellion. Through their facial expressions and their sneaky actions. It then goes into their rebellion. One particular scene that caught my attention was when the slaves contemplated k...

Reddit

When listening to the "Lost Cities of Geo Redux", there  was a couple of points about early technology; its implications and first impressions. When "Geo Cities" arose, at first people did not know what it was or what it entailed, but then it started to grab a lot of attention because it resembled a "digital manifest destiny".  Once it was bought by a larger corporation, it started to lose its value because it was not the same feel for its users.  With Geo Cities, people began to question the safety of the internet. It was unknown whether things that are put on the internet can go away. We have all heard growing up that "whatever you post on the internet, will stay there forever." This statement was made when the internet was young. In the podcast, it said that things online can actually go away and it is not in our control. This was something new for me.  A subreddit I found was specifically about Geo Cities and the internet at the very begi...
